Xmas 2012 : Here are some things we need to consider...
Tornado
- Do we simply spin the house from SR to SL?
- Do we use wind and fog machines?
- Do we make use of projector? - animals flying past, etc.
- Use of upward pointing strobe (lightning effect). Positioned on stage floor by orch. pit.
- Sound effects over the music.
- We could chromo-key Miss Gulch on bike to witch on broomstick and dissolve one in to other (plus key-frame movement) - to be projected.
Witch Appear/Disappear Effect
- Do we go for Pyros? Green smoke?
- Who would be responsible?
- How busy is the stage when this occurs?
- What about Glinda? (Blinding light with sound effect?)
Costume Changes
- How do we get characters changed in time (for example, tin man, lion & scarecrow to farmhands at the end or Gultch to Witch at the start?).
- How much time do we have?
Wizard of Oz Effect
- Project Ryan's face onto screen (really big head).
- Flame effect (Le Flame?) below the screen.
- Smoke machine under screen so project through smoke.
- Green wash everywhere else. Repeat use of strobe lighting to ceiling.
- Consider sync of video and audio (lag last time).
Balloon Escape Towards End
- How?
- Basket and rigid ropes, no balloon?
- Basket & 72" balloon used elsewhere; just move upstage then off?
- No bottom in balloon and use of black curtain secured to bottom of balloon as it rises to 'hide' actor.
Witches Castle
- Use of Le Maitres Le Flame effects on castle walls (secured to rear theatre walls?)
- Use back wall with some steps at edges to provide levels (behind 'normal' backdrop position so can be there for the entire show - we have approx. 1m space I think.)
Witch Shoots Fireballs At Scarecrow
- Check out the Le Maitre Hand-held flash guns - wow! And pretty cheap too!
Other Thoughts
- Professor Marvel's caravan?
- Yellow Brick Road? Can this be produced by a gobo?
- How to escape from inside cellar doors?
- Camp fire effect for Marvel's pitch? (Silk Flame). Rest dimly lit, use silhouette of caravan (2D)?
- Poppy & snow scene: dancers for snow or snow machine? Snow over audience? (Prevents slippy stage issue).
- Replace dog-legs for rigid painted flats (15')? Reflective material to reflect green (oz palace) or red (witch's castle) from LEDs? Black cloth for Kansas scene - raised by pulleys on back of flat.
- Hire backdrops? How many?
